2. VATICAN WALKING TOUR

Vatican City, the Sistine Chapel & S. Peter’s Basilica
The Vatican is the smallest state in the world, however it is worth a trip to Rome only to see Michelangelo’s masterpiece: the Sistine Chapel frescoes, which is inside the Vatican Museums, where one can also admire the Stanze di Raffaello (Raphael’s rooms). We will also step inside the world largest church: Saint Peter’s Basilica, then we will cross St Peter’s Square, created by the genius of Bernini a century after Michelangelo made the Cupola (dome).
After a light lunch our tour can continue by visiting Castel Sant’Angelo and Borgo Pio.
- Breakfast and Sistine Chapel
It is a pleasure for me to have a early bird breakfast with you and explain you the Sistine Chapel before entering the Museum. Comfortably sitted in a elegant place around the corner, with the use of Photos, Books and iPad, in front of a nice cappuccino and orange juce, without the mass of tourists around us I will give you all the tools to understand Michelangelo and his time, without suffering standing up in the big crowd. We will then enter the museum among the first and go to see the Chapel before the others ;-)
- Night Vatican Museums and Sistine Chapel
An extraordinary opportunity to visit the Vatican Museums after sunset.
Every Friday from Aprile 24th to July 31st and from September 4th to October 30th, the Museums will be open to visitors from 7:00 pm to 11:00 pm (last entrance at 9:30 pm).
Visitors will be able to admire important collections, following an itinerary that includes the Pio-Clementine Museum, the Egyptian Museum, the Upper Galleries (Candelabra, Tapestries and Maps), the Raphael's Rooms, the Borgia Apartment, the Collection of Modern Religious Art, the Sistine Chapel.

Ancient Rome
Walking tour through the ancient ruins of the Roman Forum, once the heart of the republic, where trades were held as well as religious life and justice. You will discover the wonders of ancient Rome and recall the reign of Caesar, admiring the fragments of Rome’s glorious past. Then you will understand Augustus words: “I found Rome a city of bricks, and left it a city of marble”. We will see the mighty Colosseum, where gladiators once fought for their lives in front of thousands of cheering Romans.
Starting from the Campidoglio (City hall), I will show you with enthusiasem the Roman Forum, the Palatine hill, the Circo Massimo, the Colosseum, the Triumphal arch of Constantine.

15. DAY OUTSIDE ROME - TIVOLI
Tivoli is located 20 miles east of Rome, visit first the emperor Hadrian’s Villa (134 a.d.), and Villa D’Este (1550).
Hadrian had a special passion for architecture and his three-hundred hectares original Villa in the Roman countryside is a reproduction of exotic monuments. Here the emperor used to rest, think and write.
Fifteen centuries later the cardinal D'Este was elected Governor of Tivoli and accustomed as he was to luxury, he was unable to live in the bare governor's palace. So he called the finest artists of the time and commissioned magnificent gardens with fountains creating his own little Versailles…
